Wushu body registers with commissioner


KUCHING: The Wushu, Dragon and Lion Dance Federation of Sarawak has registered with the Sarawak Sports Commissioner office as a new entity.
Now known as Wushu Federation of Sarawak (WFS), it will solely look after the promotion and development of wushu and competitions in the state.
These developments were disclosed by pro tem secretary William Kong Sing Yii yesterday.He said that the registration of the sports body under the Sarawak Sports Commissioner office was in compliance with the Sports Development Act 1997.He added that Wushu, Dragon and Lion Dance Federation of Sarawak, which was registered under the Registrar of Societies, will now look after the
promotion, development and competitions for lion dance and dragon dance.
“The approval was fast and done on June 19. It was only three days after we submitted the application for the registration and we are now in the midst of registering new members,” Kong elaborated.He said the registration also received the blessings and support from the Wushu Federation of Malaysia and the Sarawak State Sports Council with recommendation letters from both parties.
WFS’ pro tem president is Member of Parliament for Bintulu Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing while the deputy president is James Ting Ing Seek.
The treasurer is Jackson Ma Shaw Chee while the committee members are Wong Siew Poh (Miri), Wong Hua Yiing (Sibu) and Ling Ung Hee (Kuching).
Kong said the annual general meeting will be held to elect the first term office-bearers of WFS and it would be done before March 31, 2014.
